Sierra Nevada turquoise comes from a high-desert mine in central Nevada, operated by the Otteson family. Located near Tonopah—close to the Royston and Candelaria districts—this newer mine continues Nevada’s rich turquoise mining tradition. Discovered in the 2010s, it quickly gained attention for its stunning range of colors and unique matrix patterns.

This turquoise can vary from sky blue to teal and deep green, often accented by brown, golden, or black matrix. Spiderweb and streaked matrix patterns add to its distinct visual appeal. With a Mohs hardness of 5–6, high-grade stones are durable enough to be cut and polished naturally. More porous material is stabilized to enhance strength and preserve color.

Silver Sun offers both natural and stabilized Sierra Nevada turquoise, with top-grade stones celebrated for their vivid hues and golden matrix. This variety has become a favorite among contemporary Navajo and Pueblo artists, who value its beauty and versatility.

Though a modern discovery, Sierra Nevada turquoise embodies the spirit of the Southwest. Each piece links the wearer to Nevada’s ongoing turquoise legacy and the skilled hands of Native American jewelers who bring this vibrant stone to life.
